Jankovic Beats Zvonareva In Auckland Final

POSTED: 10:24 pm EST January 5, 2007

(Sports Network) - Top-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic captured her second career title with a three-set triumph over Russian Vera Zvonareva Saturday in the final of the season-opening ASB Classic, an Australian Open tune-up.

Jankovic beat Zvonareva, this year's fifth seed and the 2006 Auckland runner- up, 7-6 (11-9), 5-7, 6-3.

This was the fourth meeting between the pair, with each winning two matches. Zvonareva, who lost to France's Marion Bartoli in last year's finale at ASB Bank Tennis Centre, beat Jankovic last year in Cincinnati, giving up just two games. However, it was a much different story Saturday as Jankovic captured the first-place prize of $21,140.

Zvonareva, who was going after her sixth championship, settled for $11,395.
