This week's Wednesday's Child was a budding sports star. He'd also love to find a family to adopt him.Gerard, 11, loves football, baseball and anything to do with sports, so NBC 10’s Vai Sikahema took him to Vince's Sports Center in Newark, Del.

Vai said his own baseball form wasn't quite up to the major leagues but with a little advice and practice, Gerard improved quite a bit."Don't drop the bat, Gerard. There you go, better. Across your body, don't drop the bat. Awesome," Vai said.Vai said he quickly discovered why Gerard is such a fast learner."You're a straight-A student," he said. "No wonder you learn so fast."Gerard showed off his skills at air hockey. It was a beautiful day, so then they headed out to the mini golf course. Gerard took his mini golf seriously. But at one point it looked as though they were playing croquet, Vai said."I think that's a penalty for hitting my ball," he said.Vai made a hole in one but Gerard followed up with one of his own."I can still beat you," Gerard said. But the game ended as a tie."Good game. Good game, bud," Vai said. The two sat down inside to talk about Gerard's favorite subject at school."I like to write about history and life stories. One day, I might write a book," he said.As far as college, Gerard has that planned too."University of Texas. I just like everything about them, their basketball team, baseball, football, all of them," he said. But to get to that goal, Gerard needs a forever family."People who will actually care for me and someone who I can depend on when I'm hurt or worried," Gerard said.Vai said Gerard is a great kid and very articulate and polite. He'll make a great football player someday, Vai said.If you would like to be the family for Gerard or for any Wednesday's Child sponsored by the Freddie Mac Foundation, please call the National Adoption Center at 1-866-DO-ADOPT.
