Philadelphia, PA -- The Philadelphia Eagles named Marty Mornhinweg assistant head coach/offensive coordinator on Friday.Mornhinweg replaces Brad Childress, who left to become the new head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. "Marty has demonstrated that he is one of the top offensive minds in the game and he's proven that throughout his NFL coaching career," said Eagles head coach Andy Reid. "We're happy to have had him on staff for the past three seasons and with that we feel this transition will be seamless for him and for the rest of the coaching staff."
"I certainly appreciate Andy giving me this opportunity," Mornhinweg said. "The first thing we have to do is solidify the line and then we will be looking to add some skill players that can get the job done." Mornhinweg originally arrived in Philadelphia for the 2003 season as the team's assistant head coach. The veteran mentor was the head coach in Detroit during the 2001 and 2002 seasons and served as the offensive coordinator in San Francisco from 1997-2000. "I don't think the offense will look much different at all with Marty", former Eagles quarterback and NFL analyst Ron Jaworski said. "Clearly, Marty has been around the last couple of years working with Brad, working with Andy and he has a great understanding of the West Coast style of offense. As much as I think Brad will be missed because of his relationship with the players, and that is always very important, and I think Marty is that same kind of guy."
