Stumbling Phils Return Home To Battle Braves

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies will try to regroup against another familiar foe this evening, as they kick off a three-game series versus the NL East-rival Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia just dropped two of three to the New York Mets to lose control of the NL East lead and is 1-4 over its last five games. The Phillies fell a game behind the Mets in the division standings following Thursday's 3-1 loss in the series finale.

Jayson Werth homered for Philadelphia and Eric Bruntlett ended with three hits after starting in place of shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Rollins was held out of the starting lineup for showing up late to the stadium.

Rollins appeared as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, when he grounded into a game-ending fielder's choice.

J.C. Romero pitched the eighth and took the loss for the Phillies, while starter Jamie Moyer allowed a run on just two hits in seven frames.

Kyle Kendrick will handle pitching duties for the Phillies on Friday and he is 8-4 with a 4.87 ERA this season. He is 0-1 in his last three starts and 3-0 with a 4.13 ERA in five career games against Atlanta.

The Braves just won two of three games against the Florida Marlins, including Wednesday's 9-4 victory in the series finale. Starter Tim Hudson hurled six shutout innings, while Gregor Blanco and Yunel Escobar each drove in three runs to lead the charge.

Jair Jurrjens will take the hill for Atlanta tonight and he is 9-5 with a 3.22 ERA this season. Jurrjens, who has alternated wins and losses over his last four starts, faced Philadelphia for the first time in his career on July 3. He was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs and eight hits in seven innings of work.

Philadelphia owns the Braves this season, having won eight of the nine matchups so far. The Phillies won two of three games at Citizens Bank Park from May 13-15.
