Amanda Kossuth Biography:
I am a true hometown girl from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I grew up in the same house and went to the school in the same district my entire life. Everyone in my immediate family still live in Pittsburgh, and I miss them terribly. Family is the most important thing in the world to me. I have a sister, 23, a brother,19, and most recently gained 2 step brothers and 1 step sister, a real "Brady Bunch". I'm not sure what Iwas thinking when I left that protective bubble and moved to Philadelphia to go to college. It was very scary moving to a new city alone, but I am a much stronger person for it, and I love Philly as my new home.
I came to Philadelphia to study fashion. A passion for fashion was in my blood passed from my grandma, to my momma, and now to me. I'm the first to pursue career in fashion at this level. During my high school years I thought you had to go to college for business, or to become a teacher, but my mom encouraged me to follow what was in my heart, which lead me to Philadelphia University. My mother is clearly my hero and my biggest fan. I take credit for my college career having been successful because of the dedication and energy put forth in my work. My personal drive and making school a top priority for the past 4 years, has prompted some of my classmates to tell me that I am intimidating because I am so serious. Ironically, though I am a completely different person outside of the classroom and a lot of fun. Don't be surprised if you catch me dancing in headlights on Main Street in Manayunk.
This past summer I challenged myself further by studying abroad in London. It is not surprising that it was the most life changing experience. I worked full time for a women's wear designer, Katarzyna Szczotarska. Katarzyna Szczotarska is a fairly small company where I gained priceless knowledge. Since the company is so small I was involved in all aspects of the industry. I may not have learned many technical skills but my involvement allowed me to witness what it takes to be a designer and operate an apparel company, and that I it was an attainable goal for me. When I wasn't working I traveled all over Europe. I enjoyed Belgium twice, Paris, England, Amsterdam, and Italy. The next step in life now is to secure a career in the fashion design world. I'm willing to move anywhere and am very excited to work in the industry. In the mean time while I complete my degree I am taking advantage of the college life and enjoying Philadelphia with my friends.
