If ever there was a reason to take a half day or skip out of work for an hour or two, this is it.Phillies game-day employee Andrew DiJoseph of Clementon, N.J., is hospitalized and is the final stages of renal failure at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is on a five-year waiting list for a kidney donor and needs someone to step up to the plate. In addition to needing a kidney transplant, DiJoseph needs blood.
Hooked up to a dialysis machine, his body thirsts for the A-negative type because his ailing kidneys stopped removing toxins from his body. The media will be onhand to donate blood from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, and then it's the public's turn to roll up a sleeve and give at the Hall of Fame Club at Citizen's Bank Park. All donors will get special Phillies prizes, and Mitch Williams will also be on hand to thank donors and sign autographs.Advanced registration is recommended. Phillies Win
On Tuesday, the Phillies topped the Reds 6-2, thanks in part to Pat Burrell's and Rod Barajas' homers. Jimmy Rollins also stole another base and connected for two hits.On the downside, Ryan Howard struck out three times and his batting average dipped to an uncharacteristic .203.
New Stadium Food Unveiled
Instead of whining about the bullpen, shoulder tendonitis and Howard's dipping batting average, let's stay positive and talk about something that makes everyone happy -- food.Part of the ball-park experience is sinking your teeth into something yummy, and this year it seems there's something to satisfy everyone's tastebuds. For you hot-sauce schlecking chicken wing eaters out there, I suggest tickets to Wednesday games. Go to enough games, and you'll be sporting a permanent orange grease stain around your piehole. This year, Scoreboard Porch ticketholders will get $10 in concession credits, along with all you can eat wings at Harry the K's during Alley Hour, the first hour after the ballpark gates open.Other new grub includes Planet Hoagie's "Chicken Italiano," a chicken cutlet smothered in sharp provolone cheese and broccoli rabe; the "Soprano," cracked pepper turkey dressed up with sharp provolone cheese and roasted red peppers; and "Supremo," prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers.Bull's BBQ will also be home to one of the largest grills in Major League Baseball.Beefy Bubba Burgers and locally-made Panzarottis, filled with mozzarella cheese and homeade tomato sauce, will also be available at different locations throughout the park. (Please, wipe the drool off your face.)And in a great victory for vegetarians, Rick's Steaks will offer veggie cheesesteaks (grab lots of napkins). Planet Hoagie also remembered us meat-nixing fans with "Vendura," a vegetarian wrap stuffed with roasted eggplant, broccoli rabe, roasted red peppers and cheese. Thanks to these yummy vegetarian options, we won't have to wait in line for crab fries at Chickie and Pete's for an hour, missing half of the game.
Green Park
Citizen's Park is also making moves to go green, too. Many cups, plates and utensils they'll use will be made of renewable resources and will be biodegradable.
