NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- The search is over for a mother who took off with her daughter three years ago, but authorities in our area might still have a tough time bringing her back to the United States to face charges.Claudia Librett and her now 6-year-old daughter Rachel have been missing since January 2003.The two disappeared the day after a Montgomery County judge granted Librett's husband, Michael Marran, joint custody of Rachel.
"He finally gets to see his daughter and she disappears," said Colleen Consolo, Marran's attorney. The mother and daughter were picked up late Saturday night in Ontario, near Niagara Falls."However long it takes, we'll wait until she is locked up and that child is with her father," said Bruce Castor, the Montgomery County district attorney. An initial investigation indicated that mother and daughter had been living in a condominium complex in Niagara On The Lake for about two years. In late 2004, the father, Michael Marran, put up a $25,000 reward, hoping it would lead to some good information about their whereabouts.Investigators said a custody battle between Marran and Librett included allegations by Librett that Marran molested his daughter. Investigators said those allegations were not true.Canada immigration officials are holding Librett on charges of immigration violation. She has hired an attorney and is seeking refugee status from Canada.
