Joey Chestnut from San Jose, Calif., won after he ate 155 wings. Chestnut defeated The Locust, a thin silver-haired contestant wearing an Eagles jersey.Along with the Wing Bowl crown, Chestnut won a car for his eating prowess. The eating contestants were preceded into the Wachovia Center by the Wingettes, a troop of scantily clad women selected by listeners and WIP radio's personalities. In the mayhem that followed, the crowd rivaled the raucous cheering at Flyers games, especially when several contestants became sick and instant replays were repeatedly replayed on the arena's giant TV screens.Past champions El Wingador and Black Widow were barred from the event by its hosts, Sports Radio 610 WIP, because only people who never participated in previous Wing Bowls were allowed to compete this year. Also this year, radio host Angelo Cataldi told NBC 10's Byron Scott that people were charged $5 a piece of entry into the Wachovia Center.Last year, there was a major controversy when there were more people than seats for the event. Also, there was much less Eagles fever than last February, when the Eagles were just two days away from playing in Super Bowl XXXIX.
