College Class President Blames Robbery On Gambling Addiction

POSTED: 7:58 am EST December 15, 2005

The college class president accused of robbing a local bank is blaming a gambling addiction for the heist.

Greg Hogan, 19, is charged with robbing a Lehigh County bank.

Police said the college sophomore walked into a Wachovia Bank in Allentown last Friday, handed the teller a note demanding money and got away with more than $2,000.

Hogan's lawyer said the Lehigh University student was $5,000 in debt because of Internet gambling.

"Maybe by Greg getting arrested, it may help other kids come out and get help sooner," said John Waldron, Hogan's attorney.

Hogan was later arrested at a fraternity house.

He faces up to 20 years in prison on robbery charges.
