Boathouse Row's Lights Are Back On

POSTED: 6:26 am EDT July 1, 2005

The lights are back on at boathouse row on the Schuylkill River, as Thursday night's relighting ceremony kicked off a big weekend in Philadelphia.

The lights are back on after being dark at boathouse row for the past six months.

NBC 10's Amy Freeze helped throw the switch at 9:15 p.m. Thursday night as light after light came on, trimming the houses in multiple colors.

People were lined up on both sides of the river, even slowing down on the expressway, to get a look at the spectacular event.

The new color, computer-controlled lights replace the old and often burned out bulbs put up in 1976.

After a quick run of patriotic red, white and blue, breast cancer pink, and Eagles green, the lights will stay traditional white until special events occur.
