Philadelphia police now say a car first spotted Wednesday is definitely the hit-and-run vehicle that killed 15-year-old Kayla Peter in East Falls. Now they are trying to figure out who was behind the wheel.

Police found the damaged white Lexus in the driveway of an East Falls home on Wednesday.

Police have been in contact with the lawyer of the woman who owns the car. She has not been charged with any crime.

The investigation has shifted to who was behind the wheel.

Friends and family said goodbye to Peter at her funeral on Thursday as police searched for her killer. Peter was rundown by a hit and run driver on Ridge Avenue late Sunday night.

"Right now, we are 100 percent sure we have the vehicle that was involved in the hit and run accident," said Capt. Bruce Capriotti of the Accident Investigation Division. "And right now we are looking for the operator of that vehicle."

Capriotti said a tip caller lead them to a white Lexus SX 430 with front-end damage consistent with evidence found at the scene.

"The parts found at the scene fit right in there, they are unique," Capriotti said. "They fit right to the vehicle. That is the vehicle that was involved in that accident."

The owner of the car, Susanna Goihman, has not been charged.

"In every hit and run, the main person that you look at, the main person of interest, would be the owner," Capriotti said.

Capriotti said investigators are following some leads, including a possible witness to the driver of the car earlier Sunday night.

"One strong lead is that the car was parked at one location," Capriotti said. "And we're going out to see if anyone was seen getting in that car."

Goihman owns Azafran Restaurant in Center City. Police say she has retained an attorney and is not talking with investigators at this point.

NBC 10 tried but could not reach Goihman or her attorney for comment.
