BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Bucks County boy is recovering after being attacked by three pit bulls Sunday.
Quick action by neighbors who fought off the dogs probably saved the boy's life. Now, his mother is circulating a petition to get rid of stray dogs in the neighborhood.Jonas Davis, 8, was attacked when he was on the playground across the street from his Fleetwing Drive home in Bristol Township, Pa.
The bite marks on Jonas are starting to heal and his family considers him lucky to be alive. They told NBC 10 News that they wouldn't stop until they can get the attack dogs off the street."One (dog) had him by the head, one had him by the arm, one had him by the leg. The only thing I did was kick the dog that was on top of his head," said Maurice Towner, one of the boy's rescuers.Jonas is matter-of-fact when he remembers his terrifying ordeal'The dogs came. I tripped and fell on a piece of wood. I got back up and started running to the monkey bars. The dogs got there. They grabbed me by the shirt," Jonas remembered.Jonas received bite marks on his shoulders, his legs and his head. His injuries required that he get staples and a series of tetanus shots."I was very upset because he's at a playground area where you think he's safe," said Karen Herbert, Jonas' mother.Jonas says he is still in pain from his bites and bruises, but he wanted to thank his rescuer, Maurice Towner, face-to-face."He's a hero. A great hero," Jonas said. The dogs have been quarantined. Police said the owners face possible fines and charges.
