BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. -- A couple of businessmen made a colorful statement after they were blocked from developing their property their way.Perkasie Borough, Bucks County is quiet and sedate for the most part until you get to a newly painted home at 208 Ridge Ave. that stands out.The house is painted purple and pink.

Tom Link and a partner bought a half-acre property four years ago. They wanted to tear the old house down and build something new like a twin house a half-mile away.
Perkasie's Zoning Board said yes. The Borough Council said no, and won in court. So last week, the old house got a new paint job."We kind of feel it's personal. But the Borough of Perkasie is paying for the personal issue," Link said."The property owner felt that, when he purchased the property, he would have the right to put up either two singles or a twin even though the zoning didn't allow that. And that's what started the dispute," Perkasie Borough Borough Manager Daniel Olpere said.Surrounding homes are subdued and well maintained. The purple house has drawn gawkers."It looks better than it did before," one neighbor said."I used to call it the Adams Family house," another neighbor said."To me, it's humorous," one neighbor said."Oh, it's lovely. It really sticks out like a sore thumb," another neighbor said.Link said he and his partner will renovate the house and add a new roof and new porches and convert it to apartments."When we do the roof we're going to re-do the trim. And we're going to do that in yellow," Link said.
