Racist Graffiti Appears On Front Lawn

POSTED: 4:43 pm EDT June 23, 2008
UPDATED: 4:56 pm EDT June 23, 2008

Messages of hate appeared in a Delaware neighborhood over the weekend.

Police are trying to find who is responsible for the graffiti.

"We were amazed people are so mean and ignorant they'd do this," Dawn Mobley said.

Racially charged and anti-Semitic graffiti, with language so strong the entire contents of the writer's message could not be reported, appeared on a driveway, front lawn and playground equipment in a Delaware neighborhood.

For three years, the Mobleys have lived in the Colton Meadows neighborhood and said trash and rocks have been tossed on their deck and porch.

They said they even found flags on their front lawn with racist remarks written on them. But they've never had a message of hate scrawled on their front lawn before.

"It just proves racism is alive and well, and they are cowards," Mobley said.

The Mobleys and another home were targeted sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. Police said they are trying to figure out who is responsible.

In the meantime, the cleanup has begun.

"It's disgusting and the people need to realize this is a felony," Jennifer Nace, a neighbor, said.

Nace would normally take her daughter to the neighborhood playground but after messages were scrawled on the equipment and black top, she said she wouldn't go back until it was cleaned.

"I think it's revolting," another neighbor said.

The Mobleys said since a message was left for them, they have one for the person or persons with the yellow paint.

"We're not going anywhere. If you don't like it, start packing," Mobley said.
