EAST LANSDOWNE, Pa. -- A local boy who used a special wish to save his school celebrated his graduation on Monday, NBC 10 News reported.Tommy Geromichalos, who has cystic fibrosis, wrote a "Make A Wish" letter to save his school. Geromichalos raised more than $250,000 to keep St. Cyril's Catholic School in East Lansdowne open. Two-and-a-half years after saving his school, Geromichalos graduated from eighth grade. Video
"I'm hoping I can hold it together because it's so emotional," said Connie Geromichalos, Tommy's mother. "But he's worked so hard and we're really proud of him."The 47 graduates have created a future for St. Cyril's where there once was none, NBC 10 reported."I'm really happy that we got a chance to graduate," said Michael Himes, who also graduated."I'm kind of excited, because more people can come here," said Clarence Branche, another graduate.A night they thought would never happen began at the top of the list, and made its way to Geromichalos, and the graduates could now talk about the "good old days" at St. Cyril's. As Geromichalos and his classmates scatter to different high schools, they let go of their parish while never letting go of the diploma. "I'm just so happy to grab and hold onto it, and be able to say, 'I'm an alumni from St. Cyril's,'" Geromichalos said.
