Authorities: Aide Beat Alzheimer's Patient With Belt Buckle

POSTED: 8:24 am EST February 29, 2008
UPDATED: 8:37 am EST February 29, 2008

A former patient aide at an assisted living facility in King of Prussia is scheduled to go on trial in Montgomery County on charges that she beat an Alzheimer's patient with a belt buckle.

Prosecutors said a staffer at Arden Court found bruises and scratches all over the 87-year-old resident's body. The former aide, 29-year-old Henrietta Sprual, of Upper Darby, told them the man was "out of control" and used the buckle to strike himself.

Prosecutor Bradford Richman said a forensic pathologist looked at the injuries and concluded that they were "clearly not self-inflicted."

He added that the man was struck at least six or eight times.

Sprual was released on bail. Her next court date set for late April.

Richman said Arden Court did everything right in reporting the incident.
