The two men were stuck on a power transmission pole, 130-feet off the ground. Dave Acree and Chris Russell were hanging on for dear life.It happened Thursday in Glenolden, Delaware County, when a cherry picker malfunctioned, forcing the men to get out and stand on that tower. They strapped themselves to the pole for an hour and a half until a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter could get to them.
What the men said they were thinking when rescuers finally pulled them to safety showed they were able to keep their sense of humor."I was glad to get off the tower. The hoist up to the helicopter didn't bother me at all," one of them said."I had a new best friend, like that," said the other employee about embracing the Coast Guard rescue swimmer.Russell held up thank you cards that his daughters made for the Coast Guard rescue crew. The cards said, "Thank you for saving my dad."Both Acree and Russell said they're grateful to everybody involved in the rescue effort.
