Police Report 2 Arrests In Connection With Trenton Cold Case

TRENTON, N.J. -- Police arrested two men Friday in a six-year-old homicide case.NBC 10 spoke with the DeQuinzio family, and a relative said the family is happy some suspects are in custody. Shortly after the killing, the family left the community and moved to Hamilton Township.Trenton police director Joseph Santiago said the police department announced the arrests of two individuals.
Santiago said Thursday night his officers charged 37-year-old Thomas Briggs and 42-year-old Milagros Maldonado with the murder and robbery of 79-year-old Ralph DeQuinzio."The crime was gruesome, given his age and the victim's throat was slashed," Santiago said.Santiago said the man's body was discovered by his brother in their Culbertson Avenue home.Santiago declined to share details but said new forensic evidence led to the break in the November 2002 slaying.Briggs is in prison on an unrelated charge on $750,000 cash bail. Maldonado's bail is $500,000 cash. Trenton detectives said a search for more suspects continues.Trenton police Capt. Joseph Juniak expressed condolences to the family.DeQuinzio's family said he had retired after nearly 40 years with the Division of Motor Vehicles. They said they do not know either man arrested.
