Pet Shop Accused Of Selling Sick Puppies
Several Dogs Died Shortly After They Were Purchased
A Northeast Philadelphia pet store has been cited for allegedly selling sick puppies.
Some owners said that their puppies died within days after being bought at the store called "Puppies."
An animal rescue group and the Pennsylvania Dog Ward both have responded to complaints about sick puppies being sold at the pet shop.
Bill Smith bought a beagle puppy and said that it began vomiting blood soon after being taken home. He took the dog to Main Line Animal rescue to put it up for adoption.
"(They said) the dog was too sick to place. The dog was bleeding from the nail beds, had pneumonia and malnutrition. He was dehydrated," Smith said.
The pet shop owner, Chuck Guthrie, was interviewed by NBC 10 News two years ago when his wife was being sued for selling sick pets at her pet shop in Bucks County. Guthrie said that the illnesses were isolated incidents, but the animal rescue group believes there are many more victims in the Philadelphia area.
