Delaware may be a small state but it has some big claims to fame.Delaware became the "First State" of the union when the Constitution of the United States was ratified at a convention of Dover on Dec. 7, 1787. Delaware in turn was the first state honored with a commemorative quarter.Delaware is also the home to DuPont, the company founded more than 200 years ago.
Delaware is the birthplace of actors Elisabeth Shue, Ryan Phillippe and Valerie Bertenelli. Musician Bob Marley lived here before he began his legendary career, and George Thorogood and the Destroyers hail from Delaware.Delaware has its sports icons. Champion figure skater Kimmie Meissner trains at the University of Delaware. Dallas Green was born in Newport, Del. He would later lead the Phillies to the franchise's only World Series Championship in 1980.
