Two Agencies Investigate Cat Torture Video

POSTED: 11:50 am EST November 11, 2006
UPDATED: 12:45 pm EST November 11, 2006

NBC 10 first showed you a disturbing amateur video Thursday night that was posted on the video sharing website, MySpace.com.

A man's voice on the video threatens to carry out an unthinkable, cruel act.

"I'm going to throw hot water on this bitch so he knows to leave us alone I'm going to end you," the man says.

Here's how one scene appears to plays out: "This cat will know, will know not to return on my m----- f------ porch again," the man says, as water splashes on the cat and the man and woman laugh.

After hours of investigating, the NBC 10 Investigators found where the video was shot, and Harry Hairston knocked on the door of the South Philadelphia home.

No one answered, but it's clearly the same location, Hairston reported.

Neighbors who saw the video on NBC 10's report had no idea it was shot on their block.

"I would be very leery and call the police because I would be very terrified of something like that," said Alvertis McCoy of South Philadelphia.

"If they did do it, they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," said another neighbor, Shamayara Woodson.

Philadelphia District Attorney Lynn Abraham said the video angers her, and her office is investigating.

The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also launched a criminal investigation after people disturbed by the video contacted them.

"People are calling us. They are in tears. I can't even tell you how many emails we're getting an hour," said Elaine Skypala, the SPCA's director of operations.

Skypala said she didn't know if the videos were real or not.

But they were subpoenaing MySpace for evidence to help locate the computer used to upload the video, in which the man and woman also purport to douse the cat with bleach.

"We will get their address and we will go to the site," Skypala said.

Authorities said they hope to deter other from making these types of videos. If convicted, those responsible will face stiff fines and could get jail time, as well.
