More and more people are turning to Botox to look younger and smooth out those unwanted wrinkles. But in this Botox generation, what should potential patients know before they get it done?Society Hill dermatologist Dr. Susan Taylor said that an obvious Botox job is not a good look. She said that most people go for a more natural look."To avoid that frozen look, it is very simple. You can inject less Botox, you can use a more diluted concentration and you can vary the injection sites," Taylor said.Taylor is an expert on Botox and talks her first-time patients, like Gail Epstein, through the entire process."Our goal is to help remove the wrinkles, open your eyes and just have a more refreshed look," Taylor told Epstein.Epstein is older than 50 and just didn't like what she saw when she looked in the mirror."What happens as you get older, you don't feel terribly much older, but your skin starts to show telltale signs that things are happening, things are changing," Epstein said.Taylor said that Botox relaxes the muscles that people use for expression. It is easy, it is quick and the patient can be back at work the same day.Side effects include bruising, swelling and redness, which quickly go away. But if Botox is not used correctly, it isn't pretty."If Botox is not placed in the right area, you can get a depression on your eyebrow and depression of your eyelid. That is called an eyelid droop," Taylor said. The price of Botox ranges from $400 to $700, depending on the number of areas you have injected."One word of caution: when you see ads in the paper for Botox for $99 or $199, you need to be wary because often what happens is the Botox is so diluted it doesn't help you achieve the desired effect," Taylor said. While Botox can diminish the signs of aging and even prevent telltale signs from forming, it is something you have to continue to do to maintain the look. For most patients, Botox lasts between three and four months before it wears off and the wrinkles return.
