At the time of day when you'd normally be putting your feet up, a local gym is giving you a reason to put your feet down on the treadmill or any other exercise machine. The Philadelphia Sports Club in the Art Museum doesn't list its hours on the front door, but it is not an oversight. That's because a lot of people want to workout late at night or early in the morning. Now they can. The gym has gone 24/5 -- meaning you can workout anytime time you want -- Monday through Friday."Primary reason being that we have a lot of members who are police, fire, students, hospital workers who like the overnight hour options," said Gary Files, the general manager of the Philadelphia Sports Club.Exercisers find the late night and early morning hours have a lot of advantages, including their choice of almost any machine."I like it because I work at night, so I'm not really a morning person, so this works fine for me. Plus, there are less people here. I've got the gym to myself," said Ray McIver. But should you get your heart rate up just before going to bed? Dr. Michael Ciccotti, of Jefferson University Hospital sees nothing wrong with it."If it fits into your life and doesn't disrupt the rest of your life and you're still able to get sleep, do it. It's important. If you can fit it in, do it," Ciccotti said."It gives me a nice ending to my day. I get home and I'm not completely exhausted and want to go to bed. I actually feel better the next day. I get up easier," said Jessica Neofotistos. So far, the overnight workouts are a big hit. The gym said that it has seen a big jump in membership and may go 24/7 any day now.If you are one of the many people who have trouble keeping up your exercise routine, click on this link to find the Mayo Clinic's tips to staying motivated.
