Study: Aspirin Can Help Prevent Type Of Throat Cancer
It looks like aspirin can help prevent a type of throat cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma. It's the fastest growing cancer in America, caused by untreated acid reflux or heartburn.People with untreated heartburn can end up with Barrett's esophagus. That's a precancerous condition.A new study showed taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Motrin, Advil or Celebrex can reduce the inflammation and cut your risk of esophageal cancer by 68 percent.Researchers want more studies before doctors commonly prescribe aspirin to these patients.Study: No Fat Dairy Could Lower High Blood Pressure Risk
Skim milk and non-fat yogurt will lower your risk of high blood pressure.A new study out of Spain suggests a diet rich in low fat or no-fat dairy could lower your risk of high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart attacks.Other studies have shown the calcium potassium and magnesium in milk could maintain normal blood pressure.Study: Men, Women Have Different Senses Of Humor
A new study shows men and women see humor differently.Researchers did magnetic resonance imaging, or MRIs of the brains of men and women as they read newspaper comics. They found women were more analytical in their response and felt more pleasure when they felt something was really funny.Men use the same network in the brain, but less so, and tend to gravitate to one-liners and slapstick.Copyright 2005 by NBC10.com.
