Whether bushy or barely there, eyebrows can really make the difference in how a person looks -- just ask Kernika Gupta."They need to be taken care of and cleaned up, and I definitely want a better shape," Gupta, of Bryn Mawr, said. "I think that's the most important thing. I like how they are right now, but they need to be more defined."So she headed to Shanti Medical Spa in Ardmore to shape them up, without the popular but often painful waxing or tweezing tactics. This time, Gupta tried threading, and she loved it."It's precise. It's less painful," Dr. Seema Patel of the spa said. "The hair takes longer for it to grow back and it's the same price."The threading technique was developed mainly in Persia and India. The threader puts one end of the thread in her mouth and the other end in a figure eight loop around her fingers. In a gentle, quick sweep, the hair gets caught in between the threads and is removed to give the brow a nice arch, NBC 10's Lori Delgado reported."You can get very, very close to the eyebrow and shape it," Patel said. "Whereas with waxing, if you get too close, you can literally pull off the full eyebrow."Patel said threading also gets rid of that annoying little stubble that shows up from waxing.

The threading process takes about five to 10 minutes and costs about $10.The technique isn't limited to eyebrows, either.People can thread their chin, lip or just about anywhere above the face.Patel said in the beginning, people will want to have threading done once every two weeks. After the growth is better, people usually do it every three weeks to a month, according to Patel.
