If high heating bills make you crazy, there is a way to join with others to save 10 to 20 percent on home heating oil.If that doesn't sound good enough, this year there is something new that could save you even more.Frank Palmirino and his wife have a big family.
"We have a gang here. We have seven of them," Frank Palmirinio said. With that gang comes a big house that the Palmirinos will have to heat all winter."I starting researching it and I found this energy co-op," Palmirinos said."We've probably added 300 members in the past two months -- just people who are so concerned with what heating oil is going to cost them this winter," said Nadio Adawi, of the Energy Cooperative of Philadelphia."We use group buying power, not only to get better prices, but also to get leverage with heating oil dealers," Adawi said. This year, there is something new -- bioheat. The bioheating oil blend uses an oil replacement that's made from vegetable oil. That is just what Palmirino was looking for."I felt it was environmentally friendly and it helps the farmers, keeps America away from foreign oil," Palmirino said. For Palmirino, the bioheat blend was even cheaper than regular heating oil."They showed me the price and I was happy about that, also," Palmirino said.To get bioheating oil, or to get the special pricing on regular oil, all you have to do is join the co-op. The price is $5 a year.Related Resources
