Amazon.com Gets Into Grocery Biz

POSTED: 3:37 pm EDT August 24, 2006

Guess who's getting into the grocery business? Amazon.com.

The same place you have used online to buy books and CDs is now selling Raisin Bran and pretzels.

Now you can sit at home and order groceries, but this is a little different than the service offered by the grocery down the street.

Amazon offers all kinds of products, everything from soup to nuts, but there is a catch. Amazon only has non-perishable goods and it is all bulk buying.

For example, there are four 60-load boxes of Tide for about $53. A pack of seven 20-ounce boxes of Mini Wheats costs about $29.

Right now, there are more than 14,000 items to choose from, but Amazon said that number will keep growing.

As extra incentive, Amazon is offering $10 off as long as the order is $49 or more.

And one extra treat - we found a site that stocks the harder-to-find products that your neighborhood grocer maybe used to carry, but doesn't any more!
