Some people look forward to hiring a limousine service for a special occasion. But two women told NBC 10 Consumer Alert that their experience with a particular limousine company was anything but a smooth ride."He was angry, driving fast, and slamming his breaks on," said Tracy Rocap, of south New Jersey.Rocap said that she found White Cloud Limousine in the Yellow Pages. She arranged to have the limousine take her and her family to New York City for some holiday shopping.
Rocap said that the driver and owner of the company, Michael Scarduzio, told her she would have to pay $383 each way. She said that they had initially agreed on a price of $250 each way."He said that if I didn't pay him, he wouldn't guarantee that he could come back and get me," Rocap said.Rocap said that she did pay, but Scarduzio still never came back at the end of their three-day trip and left her and her family stranded."I sat out in a lobby for three hours waiting for him to come," Rocap said.Kathleen Martin also hired White Cloud Limousine for a wedding party."I sent the $200 in good faith and after 3 months and numerous phone calls, no contract came forward," Martin said.Martin said that after she didn't hear from Scarduzio, she got a lawyer to contact him.Martin said Scarduzio told her lawyer he would refund the money, but he never did. Martin quickly discovered Rocap's case."I found out that she had been on the 'Judge Judy' show and we contacted her through that," Martin said."I won my case, but the show's (producer), Paramount, paid me, not him," Rocap said.White Cloud Limousine has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau. Here is what Scarduzio told Consumer Alert about Martin's money:"I will resolve the problem if you give me her contact information. She did have a contract, and it clearly states 'no refund' if canceled."The BBB said that you should do the following when hiring a limousine company: Check references.
Ask for proof of insurance that actually covers the people in the car, not just the car.
Make sure the company is properly licensed or registered.
Get everything in writing.
The National Limousine Association recommends you never pay more than 25 percent of the fee up-front and pay the balance with a credit card in case you don't get the service you need.
